MICHAEL HANLEY SHIELD

Ballina Mini Rugby are scheduled to host to Galwegians & Carrick on Shannon in Ballina  for U7,8,9,10,11,12    @ 10-00am on Saturday 20th Feb 2010 to play for the Michael Hanley Shield.

Michael Hanley was a well known and active member of Ballina RFC before his untimely death. Michael had played for and managed teams and organised numerous events for Ballina RFC. His family have been involved with Ballina RFC for many years. His brother, Niall, is similarly involved with Galwegians RFC.

Ballina RFC would like to recognise and acknowledge Michael Hanley’s contribution to Ballina RFC.

In recognition of the objective that Mini Rugby is first and foremost a fun activity, points will be awarded across many different categories, including for example:

- Fair Play

- Best Effort

- Best Sportsmanship

- Winning (with winning a game being worth the same points as each other category)

Consequently a team might lose a match but gain more points than their opposition.

One official from each club will work together as a team at each age group to judge and record the scores. The judges decision will be final.

The Michael Hanley Memorial Shield will be awarded to the club that gains the most points.

Both clubs agree and request that, in line with the non competitive ethos of mini rugby and with the objectives of the event, that teams at each age group are NOT seperated into A and B teams.

This event is supported by the Hanley family and continues as an annual event.
